2 out of 5 stars Elmo broke after 2 days of play!   January 5, 2009
My family was very charmed by Elmo and my 20 month old daughter was thrilled to watch and interact with him. I'm not sure that Fisher Price intended children to pick him up, though! Everything was fine for the first day and then my daughter picked him up while he was talking and now there is a loud clicking sound whenever he moves his mouth or neck (we can't tell). She never slammed him down or anything, merely picked him up! I'm going to have to contact Fisher Price to see about getting a replacement.
The thing is so cute and it's such a shame it broke so soon! I hope the manufacturer understands that children are bound to pick Elmo up and that he needs to be sturdy. We never had any problems with our Tickle Me Xtreme or Hokey Pokey Elmos (yes, we have 2 other Elmos ha ha).

1 out of 5 stars Not Worth It   January 3, 2009

I bought this toy for my 4-year-old niece, and she absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, it stopped working an hour after she opened it! I thought the demo batteries were dead, but after replacing them it became obvious this toy wasn't working properly. He didn't talk anymore, he barely moved, and he began to make a loud clicking noise! He's also not very durable, because he has no padding. This was a very disappointing purchase and a huge disappointment to my niece.Do not waste your money on this product!

2 out of 5 stars Whatever you do, don't lose Elmo's chair.   January 3, 2009
The most glaring shortcoming of this toy is that Elmo is completely dependent on his little chair. During his stories, he sits to one side. If the chair is one inch in the wrong direction, Elmo falls over. If you lose Elmo's chair, the toy is effectively useless. As other reviewers have noted, this toy is more to be looked at than played with. Not a lot of fun and not worth the money.

1 out of 5 stars Leg motor broke almost immediately!   January 3, 2009

Ridiculous quality. Not ready for the market. Does not stand up to casual adult use, not to mention a child's abuse.

Ordered this in August - shipped in October. Sat in the box for 4 months. Opened for Christmas in Dec. - the leg motor broke immediately. Nothing but clicking sounds. Amazon won't allow a return because it was ordered in Aug. despite sitting unopened for 4 months.

$40 for 40 minutes of use. Would not recommend.

2 out of 5 stars it is true, Elmo is getting bored at our home too   January 3, 2009
I bought this (discounted deeply not from here) for my 21 month old daughter, she has no interest in playing with him at all. He has been sitting in the corner of her room since Christmas. I pulled it out yesterday and see if I could get her to interact with him at all and nothing. She has other interactive toys that she enjoys playing with like dogs and bears. The gears inside are very loud and sometimes I have difficulty hearing what Elmo is trying to say. It is a nice size and our does what it is supposed to do. Maybe 3 -4 year old would enjoy him better. It is way overpriced, for what it does. Seems to me all these toys are way overpriced.
