 Great when the site works! December 4, 2008

1 year ago my daughter got her first webkinz for her birthday. Since then we have collected about 50 between our family.
The basics of webkinz, is you buy the stuffed animal and it gives you a code to login online and play games, decorate a room etc.
I have a 10 year old with autism and webkinz has done great things for him. Since he is computer savy he has made lots of new friends showing them how to win games. Webkinz as a reward really helped at school.
Over the last few months the webkinz website has had so many problems. There are daily glitches that make certain sections unplayable and many times the site is just down altogether. The site is run from Canada and they do upgrades and maintaince during the day (not in the middle of the night like most sites) and the site has no one watching it on weekends or after 5pm, so it can be down all weekend. What once was a very enjoyable site, that I as a mom could share with my kids, has turned into frustation. It is hard to explain why the site is down for days, or games don't work.
I got this snowman for my kids for the winter season, I would strongly advise against these as a christmas gift because the site the past 2 years has been down on christmas due to so many new logins.
I hope in the future the site will work better. If your young child is okay with just the stuffed toy then great, I think with the current state of the website, you need to have an older child to understand technical problems or else as a parent you will have kids constantly asking, "when will the site come back up?".
