3 out of 5 stars has some benefits..   January 4, 2009
I bought this cat for my 9 year old autistic (Aspergers) son, who is absolutely crazy about cats. His face on Christmas Day was a sight to behold, although how he didnt figure it out before i'll never know because the darned thing meowed everytime someone went near the wrapped box even with the face pointed towards the wall and away from people/movement...anyway, he was in total awe and loved it, held on to it all day, allowing us all to share in the incessant meows, purrs, eye blinking, paw-moving, tail swishing, etc for many long hours....since that time, however, it has spent most of the time on his bed, meowing if anyone goes within 10 feet of it (honest!!). My son wanted a real kitten, but i felt that this was a good first step as he is not good at remembering to feed or water the two cats we already have....I do think this mass of wires and pressure sensors is useful in that respect, but cuddly it aint!!! The body is hard, the movements rather awkward (and limited and repetitive), I certainly do not believe that this toy is appropriate as a play toy for a child as young as four (as advertised), but it is ok for children 8 and up i think...but again, its not a cuddly feline, and its charms may not last...now, with my son, he does go in every once in a while and "confide" in his cat, and when he is having a melt-down he will go and hold it tight, so it has benefits there too for us...it can be helpful for children with sensory issues i believe. Overall, this toy was a good investment because it cost me a whole lot less than what is now being charged (I paid only $34 with free shipping), and I enjoy seeing the look of pleasure on my son's face when he does interact with it, but I would not purchase it for a very active/rough child, or a young child, and I would not pay the price they are wanting for it post-Christmas (it is advertised as low as $39 and $49, but you cannot get it, its out of stock everywhere, the cheapest i found it as of today is around $80 plus shipping...outrageous!!!). If you want a toy that will really entertain over a long time period this one is probably not going to be the one for you, but for my son, with his special needs, it has benefits that make it a good investment

5 out of 5 stars Super cute kitty!   January 2, 2009
My 4 year old loves her kitty! She takes it everywhere. It doesn't always do what it's suppose to (what cat does?), but it is still really cute! Definitely worth the $40 I spent.

5 out of 5 stars Worked great when we got it out of the box   January 1, 2009
This was the only thing my almost 5-year-old daughter asked Santa for this Christmas. I had a little bit of a hard time finding one locally so we received the toy only a couple of days before the holiday. When we opened the Amazon box and realized that the cat did not work in the box, I nearly cried, but we decided to take our chances since we didn't have time to find a replacement. Well, Christmas morning came, we opened the box and it works like a charm! Everyone in the family stops to pet this adorable toy and my daughter is absolutely delighted with it.

5 out of 5 stars Furreal kitty   December 30, 2008
Santa brought these cats to both my girls (3 and 5) for Christmas. They love it! Especially funny is their faces when the cat hisses at them because they handle it too roughly!

4 out of 5 stars 3 year old finally has a kitty cat   December 30, 2008
My 3 year old daughter loves kitty cats, but probably won't ever see a real one in THIS house, which is why this is a great "pet." I will have to agree with other reviewers - not every sensor seems to work the way it's supposed to. I am hoping fresh batteries will help solve that problem. My daughter doesn't notice those details, she likes the blinking, purring and occasional meowing - good enough for her. She runs to comfort and pet it everytime she hears a meow.

NOTE: Amazon's description says it takes 3 AAA batteries - it's actually 3 C-size batteries - make sure to have them on hand, because it eats batteries if you have it on all the time.

Now that this kitty is discontinued, the price here is pretty ridiculous. I think my SIL got it at a better price (under $40) last month.
